The face hides half behind a phone, the flash bounces back as a white star, and the model has to guess whether it is animating you or your reflection.
Solve those three things and a mirror selfie animates beautifully. Decide whether the clip stays in the mirror or steps out of it, give the model a clear face, and keep the phone’s job simple: lower it, put it away, or keep filming. Will the clip come out mirrored?
It follows your photo: if your phone saved the selfie mirrored, the clip starts mirrored. Flip it in your gallery first if writing on a top or the side your hair is parted on matters to you.
Can the clip leave the bathroom?
Yes. Describe a new place — a hotel corridor, a party, a rooftop — and the model builds it around your outfit. Keep the face sharp so it stays recognisable when the setting changes.
My phone case is in every frame. Can it disappear?
Ask for the phone to be lowered or put away early in the clip. A phone held in front of the face for the whole clip is the most common reason a selfie animates poorly.
Does a dark bedroom selfie work?
Grain turns into flicker. Use the shot with the light on, or the one where a lamp hits your face; the prompt can make the scene darker afterwards.
