Start with a clear subject
Head and shoulders, or a three-quarter shot, with a clean edge around the hair. A photo where the subject is already blurred gives the model less to hold sharp.
Describe the lights, not only the city

The effect is simple, which makes small errors easy to see:
- Subject too close to the lights: the lights stop blurring and start sitting on the face. Keep a clear step of distance.
- Too many small points: a busy field of glints looks like sparkle noise. Choose fewer, larger circles.
- Flat, bright reference: a washed-out photo loses the depth bokeh needs. Pick a photo with clear light and shadow.
- Lights changing color mid-clip: colored strobes make the scene flicker. Keep one color family.
- Glare on glasses: reflective lenses catch every light. Choose a photo without glasses, or ask for none.

Some lenses and some lights produce polygon-shaped bokeh. Ask for “round, soft circles” in the prompt, and avoid very small, harsh points of light.
Can the lights move in the clip?
Yes. Describe the motion with words such as “drifting”, “sliding past” or “slowly swelling”. Keep the camera steady or slow so the circles stay readable.
Will my face stay sharp?
