Midnight mistakes that turn dark into muddy

Darkness is the subject, but the viewer still has to see the person. These habits lose them:

A frame with no light on the face: the person disappears into the background. Keep one warm source on the face.
Too many colored lights: a rainbow of neon makes the mood busy. Choose one accent color.
A busy background: crowds and moving lights compete with the subject. Use a simple street or a plain wall.
Vague time: “at night” gives a random city. Say “midnight” and name the streetlamp or the rooftop, and the scene locks in.
Missing sound: silence feels unfinished at midnight. Ask for distant traffic, footsteps or a low bass line.

Which length works for midnight?

Can I add rain or fog?
